New Opportunities PoC Workshop with Josie Seid
Getting to Know Your Inner Characters
September 26th 6:30-9:00pm
Reed College Performing Arts
Free workshop. (Please give 24 hour notice for cancellation in case of wait lists).
Josie Seid will work with participants to draw out characters using cues from scene text, physical attributes and other methods. We will explore digging into both imagination and observation to build frameworks for believable characters.
Josie Seid has been acting on stage in both straight plays and musicals as well as in film for 30 years. She toured for two years with Theater IV, which was the second largest touring theater for children on the East Coast as well as performed in Portland with theatre such as Artist's Repertory Theatre, Third Rail Repertory, Portland Playhouse, Vanport Mosaic and Broadway Rose.
New Opportunities PoC Workshops are funded through our work with “The —Ism Project”, an original hour-long new work by MediaRites’ Theatre Diaspora directed by Catherine Ming Tien Duffly. “The —Ism Project” will be composed of 6-7 short monologues exploring the intersections of race, gender, orientation and nationality, including stories with specifically Pacific Northwest perspectives. The project will culminate in six performances late January 2019 and will include post-show community dialogues with audience members in an effort to bridge divides and create much-needed empathy, understanding and compassion. The long-term goal of this project is to tour small towns and rural communities across Oregon.
"The —Ism Project” are made possible with funding by RACC, Ronnie Lacroute and the Collins Foundation.
